About Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Level 1 Training
We are pleased to offer the second half of Level 1 Formation Training with Catechesis of the Good Shepherd in summer 2019.
Registration is closed but if you are interested, please contact us with any questions.
The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a method of spiritual formation that relies on the one Teacher, the Holy Spirit, to guide both children and adults to a deeper and more meaningful relationship with God. This Level I course will offer an opportunity to contemplate the essential truths of our Christian faith and prepare
participants to facilitate a Level I atrium for three to six year old children.
The Level 1 course is the foundational course for anyone interested in offering Catechesis of the Good Shepherd to children ages 3 - 6, 6 - 9, or 9 - 12. The Level 1 Course presents the seminal themes that continue through all three levels but is training catechists for the 3-6 age group. The sessions will be a mixture of lectures, discussions, presentations, album page preparations, songs and prayer.
Registration and tuition are for the entire course which will take place over the course of 2018 and 2019.
The dates for the 1st half of the course are June 28-30, July 20 - 22, August 3 & 4, October 5 & 6. The second half of the course will be June - October 2019.
Formation Leader: Micki Hill is a passionate lay minister and advocate for children in the church. She serves on staff at the Cathedral of All Souls in Asheville, NC as Dean’s Assistant for Children’s Formation and Coordinator of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS). Micki has completed extensive training in all three levels of Catechesis and regularly participates in CGS workshops across the country. As a certified formation leader, chair of the Episcopal Committee, and board member for the National Association of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGSUSA) she is privileged to work with vestry, clergy and education teams to create an environment that welcomes children and young families. In her past career, Micki worked as a landscape designer and finds that her love for growing things has informed her life in formation ministry.
Katushka Olave will also be joining us as a Formation Trainer for part of 2019.
Katushka’s journey began more than ten years ago when she felt a call, and discovered the marvelous (maravilloso) love of God through her work as a catechist with the children in the Catechisis of the Good Shepherd at her home parish, Immaculata Conception in Durham, North Carolina. Since that time, her relationship with God has continued to grow, and the most wonderful thing is to be able to lead the children through these green pastures to marvel at the love of God.
Katushka is the Pastoral Associate at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and advocates for the needs of the Latino Parishioners. She is also the head of the Latino Parents Playgroup which serves Spanish-speaking mothers with children ages 0-3 years. Each group meets once a week for fellowship, music, sharing ideas, developing nurturing parenting skills, information sharing and providing referrals to community resources. She helps to empower parishioners to live lives of justice, healing, compassion and peace manifesting the Reign of God in Durham through formation in Catholic Social Teaching, direct service to "the least among us," advocacy, community organizing, mental health and global solidarity.
Katushka is originally from Bolivia, South America. She has lived in Durham, North Carolina for 29 years with her husband Juan and three daughters Francis, Paula and Sebastiana.
Tuition shown is for the entire course (2018 & 2019).
We welcome those who have taken Level I courses in the past for a donation of $100 or more to help cover the cost of food, copies and materials available to you in the course.
